McDonald's Breakfast Sauce (Copycat Recipe) (1)

I hate it when I have a fast food favorite and then it gets cancelled.

McDonald’s steak, egg, and cheese breakfast bagels were me and my son’s favorite indulgence on busy mornings where we had to hit the drive thru.

They were taken off the menu for a couple years, but have since been brought back.

However, the new version doesn’t have the creamy signature sauce.

They’re still good, but not the same.

Then I found out that they discontinued the sauce entirely.

So I made it my mission to figure out how to recreate it at home.

This McDonald’s breakfast sauce recipe tastes just like the original, and is super easy to whip up.

Make it the night beforehand, and pair it with your favorite breakfast sandwich for a grab and go option that’s a real treat!

Ingredients Needed

This quick and easy McDonald’s breakfast sauce copycat only requires a handful of ingredients.

To make it you’ll need:

  • Mayonnaise – You’ll need roughly a half cup of mayo for this recipe. I recommend using a brand you know and love since this is the base of the sauce, and the flavor will shine through.
  • Mustard – I use yellow mustard, but you could sub Dijon mustard if that’s more convenient.
  • Lemon Juice – Fresh is best, but the prepared kind works just as well. Make sure to shake it well before using to reincorporate any settled bits if using the prepared variety.
  • Steak Sauce – Any brand will work, but make sure it is labeled as ‘steak sauce’.
  • Seasonings – This sauce is seasoned with a mixture of dried dill weed, salt, and ground black pepper.

How To Make

Making this copycat McDonald’s breakfast sauce is super easy.

Start by gathering your ingredients.

Once you’ve measured everything out, add all of the ingredients to a mixing bowl.

It only makes a cup’s worth of creamy sauce so you can use a small mixing bowl.

Whisk all of the ingredients together until evenly combined.

Cover the mixing bowl tightly, whether it’s with a matching lid or cling style plastic wrap, and then refrigerate.

Allow the sauce to chill for at least 2 hours, but it can sit overnight if that’s easier.

Don’t skip the chill time!

I know it can be tempting, and it will still be tasty but to truly be what it’s meant to be the flavors need time to meld and marry.

Serve with your favorite breakfast options and enjoy!

How To Store

Extra McDonald’s breakfast sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Don’t store any sauce that has already touched food.

You can make up a batch on Sunday night though, and enjoy it a little bit at a time all week long!

How Many Servings In This Recipe?

As written this recipe will make a little less than a cup of McDonald’s breakfast sauce.

An actual serving size would be 1-2 tablespoons of sauce.

What To Use Breakfast Sauce On?

I highly recommend making and using this on our copycat McDonald’s Steak, Egg, and Cheese Bagels.

It also pairs really well with our sausage breakfast burritos recipe.

It’s also a great sauce to use on breakfast nachos, breakfast pizza, or to dunk pretty much any breakfast sandwich into.

If you have leftovers, this sauce goes great with both grilled chicken or steak.
