A budget-savvy home baker has revealed her secret recipe for the most delicious shortbread - and just in time for Christmas.

Not only is it possible to whip up a batch in a mere 20 minutes, but the recipe also uses just three ingredients: butter, flour and icing sugar.

'These are so tasty!' The clever Australian home cook wrote alongside two snaps she shared to Facebook showing the perfectly crumbly delights.

'They are crunchy and melt in your mouth. I better stop eating them or there will be none left to pack.'

These three ingredient shortbread biscuits couldn't be easier to make and the result is a delicious treat which takes just 20 minutes to bake

As well as revealing how she only used three ingredients to create her delicious biscuits, the woman explained her secret for creating their perfectly uniform shape.

'I cut them into rectangles once they are half-baked in the oven. Also, prick them with a fork to make them look more slightly fancier,' she wrote.

She also explained how it was possible to create shortbread shapes using the recipe, however, she notes this needed to be done prior to cooking.

'If you want to shape them with a cookie cutter prior to baking, simply add 1/4 cup extra flour, so the cookies don't spread too much and hold their shape.'

Part of the genius behind this recipe is the fact that it doesn't need a mixer to blend ingredients, making it one that's ideal for young kids.

There's nothing better than the scent of home baking to make your home feel even more like Christmas and this shortbread recipe as revealed by one savvy home cook couldn't be simpler

In order to do this, simply place sugar and flour in a bowl along with small cubes of cold butter.

Next, use hands to 'rub' the ingredients until they resemble the texture of 'wet sand' meaning as finely crumbled as possible.

'Then proceed with the same method for baking time,' the woman concluded.

Shortbread cookie recipe:

Ingredients:

250g salted butter, softened

2 cups of plain flour

3/4 cup icing sugar

Method:

1. Cream butter until smooth, add icing sugar, beat to combine

2. Add flour in two batches. Beat to combine. Dough should resemble wet sand.

3. Dump dough onto table, using both hands and bring dough together in a ball.

4. Place dough onto a rectangle lined baking tray(31.5cm by 23.5cm), press gently into hands with your hands. Roll gently with a rolling pin or a glass to create a smooth surface. Remember: tightly packed dough equals hard cookies

5. Bake at 160° C for 20 minutes. Remove tray from oven and cut to desired shape with a knife.

6. Return to the oven and bake for a further eight minutes until the surface becomes golden. Turn oven off, leave door ajar, and leave to cool in the oven for at least an hour. The residual heat will complete baking.
