Here’s what my Lady says Peanut Butter Cookies for Dogs

Dog treats are fun to make, and of course, your fur babies will love them – but you have to make sure you’re using ingredients that are safefor their tummies.

Some dogs are more sensitive than others, so sometimes it’s trial and error, but knowing and following “safe” recipes is always your best bet.

Can dogs eat peanut butter?

Yes, dogs can eat peanut butter. Peanut butter is a popular snack for many dogs, as it is high in protein and healthy fats.

It is also a popular ingredient in dog cookies and treats.

It also has vitamins B and E which are important to a dog’s health.

With all that said, I prefer natural peanut butter.

It’s important to be aware that peanut butter contains a high sugar content, so moderation should be practiced when giving it to your dog.

Avoid feeding them any brands of peanut butter which contain artificial sweeteners or added sugar, as these are not good for their health.

Moreover, Xylitol is an artificial sweetener found in some commercial peanut butter.

This additive is extremely toxic for dogs and should be avoided at all costs.

And, if your dogs love these peanut butter dog cookies, then be sure and try our VERY favorite !

These peanut butter cookies for dogs have been a favorite for ALL our dog friends!

Peanut Butter Cookie Dog Treat Recipe

Less is more when it comes to baking your own pup treats, so I’ve combined 3 simple ingredients (plus hot water) to make these delicious Peanut Butter Cookie Dog Treats.

These treats keep well in the refrigerator for at least a week.

Most importantly, these peanut butter cookies for dogs are sure to be a hit with your pup!

Ingredients:

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup oats
1/2 cup peanut butter (no XYLITOL) – creamy peanut butter works best
1 1/4 cups hot water

How to make this tasty Peanut Butter Cookie Dog Treat recipe:

Preheat oven to 350*F.

Combine all ingredients in your mixing bowl. It’s important that you use hot – not cold – water, so don’t skimp on this step.

You will want to stir your dough with a spoon or spatula at first, but it will eventually get to a point that you can knead it like bread dough. Eventually, it will all roll up into a ball.

Flatten dough on the counter, either with your hands or a rolling pin. If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour. I did not have any issues with the dough sticking to the counter, but there are many variables (like house temperature, altitude, measuring devices, etc), so don’t fret if yours does.

Roll dough into 1 inch balls and place on a greased prepared baking sheet. You can use cooking spray or a healthy oil of your choice to prepare the cookie sheet.

Bake at 350*F for about 15 minutes or until golden brown (baking time may vary with ovens). Your pup can actually eat this dough raw, so don’t worry about undercooking. However, if you overcook the treats, they will be dry and crumbly.

Once dough balls are on the cookie sheet, flatten them criss-cross style with a fork (like you do with peanut butter cookies for humans).

This recipe for homemade dog cookies will make a few dozen cookies. All ingredients are safe for human consumption.

Cool the cookies completely before storing them in an airtight container so they won’t go stale. You may also opt for custom cookie packaging with barriers and puncture-resistant features to prevent them from crumbling.

Once cooled, let your furry friend enjoy!

NOTES:

  • Store in the refrigerator OR alternatively, you can freeze part of the dough to bake later 🙂
  • All ingredients in these homemade treats are safe for human consumption.
